June 25, 2014 – Bluegrass State…Justin Allgaier will be making his first NASCAR Sprint Cup Series (NSCS) start at Kentucky scott motorsports logoSpeedway this weekend. Saturday night’s race will be the fifth of 10 night races for the NSCS this season. Allgaier and the No. 51 BRANDT Professional Agriculture team tested at Kentucky for two days earlier this month, but only received limited track time due to weather. He has two top fives, four top 10s and has led 29 laps in JUSTIN ALLGAIER 3seven NASCAR Nationwide Series (NNS) starts at the 1.5-mile track. Allgaier also has experience in the ARCA Racing Series at Kentucky, with three top fives and four top 10s in seven starts, and has two starts in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series at Kentucky.

Sonoma Recap…Allgaier completed his first NSCS race at Sonoma Raceway He had never raced on the 1.99-mile road course until last Saturday when he participated in the NASCAR K&N Pro Series West race to gain experience for the NSCS race. Allgaier finished that race in the 14th position after late-race contact. Allgaier qualified the No. 51 BRANDT Chevy 35th for the race. The Riverton, Ill. native finished 33rd in his inaugural NSCS race at Sonoma for HScott Motorsports.

Sunoco Rookie of the Year…After graduating to the NSCS this season, Allgaier is competing for Sunoco Rookie of the Year honors in the No. 51 BRANDT Chevy. In 2009, Allgaier took home the Rookie of the Year title in the NNS. After Sonoma, Allgaier is currently third in the standings, behind Kyle Larson and Austin Dillon.

Justin Allgaier on Kentucky Speedway:

“I’m ready to get back to oval racing at Kentucky [Speedway]. I tested there earlier this month with my team. Unfortunately, we didn’t actually get a lot of track time because of rain. They redid the start/finish line and I found out during the test that it’s pretty rough compared to how it used to be. That’ll be another factor affecting the car this weekend. We’ve been working on our mile-and-a-half program all season and we’ve been seeing improvements, so I hope we continue that trend this weekend.”

Crew Chief Steve Addington on Kentucky Speedway:

“We tested at Kentucky [Speedway] earlier this month. We weren’t able to get our two full days of testing in because of the rain, but we did get a little bit of track time. We’ve had time to go through those notes and apply them to this weekend. We need to keep qualifying well and have a mistake-free weekend. We’re making gains each week on the oval tracks and I think we will see a continuation of that this weekend.”

HSCOTT MOTORSPORTS NSCS SONOMA RACEWAY PREVIEW / JUSTIN ALLGAIER

Justin Allgaier

No. 51 BRANDT Professional Agriculture Chevrolet – Toyota/Save Mart 350

June 18, 2014 – Double Duty…Coming off of his best NASCAR Sprint Cup Series Cup Series (NSCS) finish at Michigan (MIS), Justin Allgaier will be making his first NSCS start at Sonoma Raceway. This weekend’s race is the first of two road course races this season. Sonoma is also one of the few tracks Allgaier has never raced on before. In preparation for Sunday’s 219-mile race, Allgaier will be competing in the K&N Pro Series West race on Saturday, June 21 at Sonoma. Allgaier will race the No. 83 Grigg Brothers/BRANDT Chevrolet for Admiraal Racing. Statistics show Allgaier has typically favored road course races in the NASCAR Nationwide Series (NNS). He has one win (Montreal 2012), two top fives and eight top 10s in 14 NNS road course starts.

Crew Chief Corner…Two of crew chief Steve Addington’s 20 wins came at Sonoma – Kyle Busch (2008) and Kurt Busch (2011).

Michigan Recap…Allgaier completed his first NSCS race at MIS last weekend. In qualifying, the No. 51 Carcoon Airflow Systems Chicagoland Speedway - Day 1Chevy team advanced to the second round, earning the 17th starting spot and tying Allgaier’s best career starting spot set at Charlotte Motor Speedway earlier this season. In the 400-mile race, Allgaier ran as high as the fourth position at the 2.0-mile track. The 28-year-old earned his best NSCS finish, crossing the stripe in the 16th position for HScott Motorsports.

Sunoco Rookie of the Year…After graduating to the NSCS this season, Allgaier is competing for Sunoco Rookie of the Year honors in the No. 51 BRANDT Chevy. In 2009, Allgaier took home the Rookie of the Year title in the NNS. After Michigan, Allgaier is currently third in the standings, behind Kyle Larson and Austin Dillon.

Justin Allgaier on Sonoma Raceway:

“I’m thrilled to be going to Sonoma [Raceway]. My team had a great weekend at Michigan [International Speedway] and I’m hoping that momentum can carry into this weekend. I’ve never raced at Sonoma so I will have a pretty steep learning curve. I’ll be racing Justin+Allgaier 550in the K&N Pro Series West on Saturday to gain experience. I’ve always enjoyed road racing, and I’m looking forward to the tough competition this weekend. My crew chief Steve Addington has a couple of wins there, so I will be relying on him for guidance.”

Crew Chief Steve Addington on Sonoma Raceway:

“Justin really likes road courses but with him never racing at Sonoma [Raceway] before, it will take some time for him to get acclimated. He will be able to use the K&N Series race as a learning opportunity for Sunday’s race. He will need to take care of the BRANDT Chevy during the race to be in the position to do well at the end. His confidence is up after Michigan last weekend, so hopefully that rolls over to this weekend.”

CHEVROLET TEAMS READY TO TURN LEFT AND RIGHT INTO VICTORY LANE AT SONOMA

Jeff Gordon

Chevrolet SS Drivers Prepare for First Road Course Race of 2014

DETROIT – June 17, 2014 – The greatest race cars drivers in the world compete in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series (NSCS), and many of them carry the Chevrolet brand on the front of their Chevy SS race cars.  Out of 36 points paying races, the drivers and teams face the challenge of turning left and right only twice a year at two road course venues on the NSCS circuit. This weekend, they will take on Sonoma Raceway, a 1.99-mile, 12-turn road course nestled in the Napa Valley area of Northern California.

Chevrolet drivers have been victorious 10 times in the 25 races held at this track, making the Bowtie Brand the most successful manufacturer at Sonoma.  And after making five consecutive trips to Winner’s Circle in the last five weeks, Chevrolet looks to turn right into Victory Lane once again on a fourth different type of track.  So far in 2014 Chevrolet drivers and teams have wins on superspeedways, short tracks, concrete tracks, and 1.5-mile venues.  To win at the first road course race of the season would further reward all the members of Team Chevy for their continuous dedication and hard work.

The task will not be easy. Not only will drivers have to compete with each other, their greatest task of the day will be staying on the 1.99-mile course and battling elevation changes and narrow braking corners. The most recent Chevy NSCS winner at Sonoma was Jimmie Johnson in 2010.  Johnson’s Hendrick Motorsports teammate Jeff Gordon is the most successful active driver at Sonoma with five poles and five wins at the difficult course.

The Save Mart 350 is scheduled to begin at 3 p.m. ET on Sunday June 22nd. Live coverage will be available on TNT, PRN Radio, Sirius NASCAR Radio Channel 90 and NASCAR.com.

SAM HORNISH’S UPPER HAND: ROAD COURSE EXPERIENCE

Sam Hornish, Jr

August 08, 2013 – With the series headed to Watkins Glen for the Zippo 200, Sam Hornish Jr., who has previous road-course experience from his time in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series and IndyCar Series, could use this Saturday as an opportunity to capitalize on that resume, which several of his closest rivals lack.

In six trips to road courses with the NASCAR Nationwide Series, he has finished in the top five in the most recent four. Earlier this season, he finished fifth in the first road-course event of the season at Road America. He posted top-five finishes in all three races on road courses last year, finishing third in The Glen race. In addition, he had a runner-up performance at Montreal and a fifth-place showing at Road America.

He competed seven times at road courses in the NSCS, scoring a fifth and a 14th in his last two events, which were both at The Glen. His 11 career road-course starts in the IndyCar Series were highlighted by a runner-up finish at Watkins Glen in 2007.

Although Hornish has only one win (Las Vegas) to his credit this season, he has collected a series-high four runner-up finishes among NNationwide logopoints-eligible competitors that have him tied with Regan Smith for second in the standings.

In all four races that he placed second, Hornish finished behind NSCS regulars, thus earning him the most championship points among NNS drivers in three of the events, and tying him with two other drivers for the most points earned in the fourth.
