MATT CRAFTON CONTINUES TO DEFEND CHAMPIONSHIP TITLE

October 01, 2014 – Fans might witness a feat in the 2014 NASCAR Camping World Truck Series that’s never been pulled off in its 20-year high-octane history.

A championship repeat.

Defending NASCAR Camping World Truck Series champion Matt Crafton further distanced himself from the field with a third-place showing at Las Vegas Motor Speedway on Saturday. He now leads ThorSport teammate Johnny Sauter in the standings by 19 points and sits ahead of third-place Ryan Blaney by a cushy 27-point margin.

The next stop on Crafton’s title-defending tour: Talladega Superspeedway (Saturday, Oct, 18 at 3:30 p.m. ET on FOX), where he claims an average finish of 15.5.

Crafton has been nothing short of magnificent all season. He owns two wins, leads the NCWTS with 10 top-five finishes and ranks tied for first with 13 top-10 finishes. Since his 14th-place showing at Pocono, the 38-year-old has turned his performance up a notch with five top fives in his last six races. The lone outlier was a sixth-place finish at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park.

Despite his points lead with only five races left, Crafton continues to state he will not fret over the championship, until he makes it through Talladega, a historically unpredictable track, at the earliest.

“I’m not even going to worry about it to be honest,” Crafton said. “I’m going to go into each and every race to just go to win. We get through Talladega and then I’ll feel a lot better at that point.”
